Minnesota’s No. 1 Ranked Player Christian Wiggins Commits to Iowa State

The top basketball player in Minnesota’s 2026 class, Christian Wiggins, has officially committed to Iowa State, giving the Cyclones a massive recruiting win with national implications.

The 6’5″ shooting guard from Wayzata High School announced his decision Saturday, choosing Iowa State over a competitive list of programs that included Creighton, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Northern Iowa.

Wiggins, a four-star recruit, is ranked No. 52 nationally and is considered the No. 8 shooting guard in the 2026 class. His commitment marks a significant moment for Iowa State’s 2026 recruiting class as the Cyclones continue to build a strong foundation for the future under head coach T.J. Otzelberger.

    Dynamic Scoring Guard Brings Versatility

Wiggins has been a star at Wayzata High School, where he led the Trojans to a 28-4 record and their third Minnesota Class 4A state title in just five years. In the championship game, Wiggins delivered a well-rounded performance, scoring 21 points, grabbing five rebounds, and dishing out three assists.

His postseason dominance included a 31-point performance in the section title game, where he drained six three-pointers.

Known for his ability to score at all three levels, Wiggins combines length, athleticism, and elite shot-making. His step-back three-pointer is a staple of his offensive game, but he’s equally comfortable driving to the rim and finishing through contact.

As a 6’5″ guard, he brings size and positional versatility, making him a potentially impactful player in the Big 12 Conference.

Iowa State’s 2026 Class Gains Momentum

Wiggins becomes the second commitment in Iowa State’s 2026 recruiting class, joining three-star point guard Yusef Gray Jr. from Milwaukee, who pledged to the Cyclones back in January. With Wiggins now in the fold, Iowa State’s backcourt of the future is starting to take shape, and it’s looking electric.

Wiggins’ commitment also signals that Iowa State is becoming a serious player in recruiting the Midwest’s top talent. Snagging the top-ranked player in Minnesota, especially over in-state rivals like the University of Minnesota and nearby powerhouses like Wisconsin and Iowa, is a statement move.

If Wiggins’ high school success translates to the collegiate level, he could become a day-one contributor in Ames. His length and scoring ability make him a natural fit in Iowa State’s system, which often leans on strong guard play and defensive intensity.

As the Big 12 remains one of the toughest basketball conferences, Wiggins’ ability to create his own shot and space the floor could make him a go-to offensive threat for the Cyclones.

Wiggins also hit the 1,000-point milestone during his junior year, further cementing his status as a high-impact scorer and one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Minnesota in recent memory.
