Celtics Projected To Land 17.7-PPG ‘Terrific All-Around’ Forward With No. 28 Pick in 2025 NBA Draft

The Boston Celtics are expected to select UAB forward Yaxel Lendeborg with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Lendeborg, who wrapped up his senior season averaging 17.7 points per game, is widely seen as a “terrific all-around” prospect with immediate NBA potential.

Known for his strength and two-way versatility, he’s drawn buzz as a possible first-rounder, with projections placing him firmly within the top 40. A consistent double-double threat, Lendeborg stands out as one of the nation’s top rebounders and has demonstrated strong playmaking instincts.

Celtics Linked to Versatile UAB Forward Yaxel Lendeborg in 2025 Draft Projections

Lendeborg, a Michigan commit and standout forward from UAB, continues to turn heads at the NBA Draft Combine, where his athletic profile and skills have sparked serious first-round consideration. Though he pledged to Michigan via the transfer portal, the 6-foot-9 forward admitted he’s “torn” on whether to return to college or remain in the 2025 NBA Draft.

“I know I just said 60-40 with Michigan, but this whole process is opening my eyes,” Lendeborg said, reflecting the weight of his looming decision ahead of the May 28 withdrawal deadline.

The buzz surrounding Lendeborg has only intensified following an impressive showing in Chicago. Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports reported:

“I’m going to tell you the truth — (Lendeborg) has got some serious momentum, and it sounds like he may be in this draft to stay.”

Finkelstein cited key measurements that boosted Lendeborg’s stock: 6-8.5 without shoes, 235 pounds, a 7-foot-4 wingspan — the fourth-highest wingspan differential at the combine — and a standing reach exceeding 9 feet.

Alongside those physical tools, Lendeborg showcased his late-season playmaking and passing ability, reinforcing his projection as a first-round talent.

CSN praised him for his “terrific all-around game.” His ability to score inside, shoot from distance, and facilitate offense adds valuable versatility,

“Easily one of the top players in college basketball last season, Lendeborg has a terrific all-around game. But as a 6’9″, 240-pound forward, his potential is a question mark. He shot 35.7% from deep during his senior season, inspiring belief that he could help fill the void when Celtics forward Al Horford retires.”

As a senior, Lendeborg averaged 17.7 PPG and shot 35.7% from three. Still, some analysts question how his game will translate to the pros. Yet, his 240-pound frame, rebounding prowess, and floor-spacing ability offer clear NBA utility.

The Celtics, armed with the No. 28 pick, have been linked to Lendeborg due to their need for two-way depth in the frontcourt. With veteran Al Horford nearing retirement, Lendeborg could offer both immediate rotational impact and developmental upside.
