This week, Cedric Coward became Duke’s first commit from the transfer portal this offseason. The 6’6″ star averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in six games last year with Washington State.
Coward declared for the NBA Draft when he announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. He emphasized in his Duke announcement that he would continue going through the draft process to speak with professional scouts and evaluate his draft stock.

Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers are one of the most formidable teams in the NBA when Kawhi Leonard is fit, but nowadays, a fit Kawhi is almost a myth. The Clippers may be looking to add depth in that position to reduce Kawhi’s workload.
Utah Jazz
The Jazz are currently the worst team in the NBA and need a massive overhaul. They could start with a lottery pick in this year’s draft, but they need all the help they can get in every position. Coward could be an option for the Jazz in the second round.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans lost a whopping 61 games this season and will have a lottery pick this year. This means they are part of the worst team in the league and need an overhaul. Brandon Ingram is the starter at small forward, but he played a measly 18 games this season. The Pelicans could be looking for depth in that position.
Washington Wizards
The Wizards are in the midst of a rebuild, and they have a couple of talented young players on their roster. Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly could do it with more help from around them. With an imposing frame and a 7’2 wingspan, Coward could be beneficial for the Wizards.

Portland Trailblazers
The Trailblazers are also a struggling team that needs all the help it can get. The team hasn’t been in order since Dame Lillard was traded to Milwaukee. Their front office could take the youth route or trade for a superstar. Either way, players like Coward will represent a good squad option.
