Alex Karaban has announced on social media that he is forgoing the 2025 NBA draft to return to the Huskies for his senior season. He had initially declared for the draft after the conclusion of the 2025 NCAA tournament.
Karaban also tested the pre-draft process last year before withdrawing from consideration, as he wanted to be a part of a potential three-peat with UConn.

Alex Karaban Eyes His Third Title in 4 Years With UConn
The 6’8 “forward was projected to be a second-round pick in this year’s draft. With his ability to shoot off the catch and on the move, he has a good feel for the game and displays a knack for finding open space on offense.
Earlier this month, Alex Karaban said he was still mulling over his decision and would consult with his family and coaches as the early entry deadline approached on April 26. He has now decided to return to UConn for his senior year.
“I pride myself on accepting challenges and holding myself to the highest standard,” Karaban said on his social media page.
“Last year, we didn’t achieve what we set out to, and I am not running from a chance to make that right. After deliberating the last few weeks with my coaches and family about my future, I’ve realized that my heart remains in Storrs. I have unfinished business to chase another national championship with my brothers.”
Karaban was named to the second team of the All-Big East this past season. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 blocks on 34.7% shooting from behind the arc, becoming the 53rd player in program history to record at least 1,000 career points.
Karaban was a key member of the back-to-back national championship teams in 2023 and 2024 and also of the team that crashed out on the first weekend of this year’s tournament. He feels he has unfinished business with the Huskies, who plan to go all the way next season.
In addition to Karaban’s return, the Huskies retain Solo Ball, Jaylen Stewart, and Tarris Reed, while also bringing in the nation’s ninth-ranked recruiting class, headlined by Georgia transfer Silas Demary and five-star guard Braylon Mullins. UConn has also added Mike Nardi to the coaching crew from Villanova.
