Can Duke’s Cameron Boozer Surpass His Dad? Reddit Fans Weigh In on the Boozer Bloodline

Cameron Boozer, along with his point guard twin brother, Cayden, are chasing after the legacy of their father, former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer. They have a pretty tall mountain to climb, especially as the elder Boozer led the Duke Blue Devils to a national championship back in 2001. The question now is, will Cameron be able to surpass his dad’s achievements?

Winning a national title will be hard, especially as many see Cameron Boozer to be a one-and-done for Duke. Should he make it to the NBA, becoming an All-Star is also quite hard, and winning an NBA title is even harder. This has sparked a debate among fans on Reddit about whether Cam could surpass his dad’s achievements.

“It’s not often that we see a player who is rated on a similar level with his father. Usually there is a big talent gap between father and son, with 1 side being the much better player. But in this case, they are considered to be pretty similar based on talent. Coincidentally, their game is actually somewhat similar too,” one person noted.

Do you think that Cameron Boozer will become as good of a player or better than his dad was?

“Cameron was a better HS player, but Carlos has, like, a 98th percentile outcome in terms of his college/pro/international career achievements. The safer bet is to say he doesn’t, even if the tools are all there.,” another person said.

“In college probably not, largely because he’ll only be there for a year. Boozer was a monster his last year. Kinda shocked that he wasn’t an All-American, I remember him being so good and the numbers are sick (18 and 9 on 66% shooting). Very rare for freshman, even super hyped prospects, to be that good that fast,” added another.

However, many fans have conceded that Cameron may be more talented than his All-Star dad.

“There’s not that much room because Carlos was an all-star and Olympian but Cameron is definitely more talented, like a better version of Kevin Love,” one Redditor pointed out.

“Hopefully both Cameron and Cayden will be significantly better than Carlos was.,” another person hoped.

Cameron Boozer is coming off one of the most stellar high school careers yet, winning a state title for Columbus four times in a row, winning the Chipotle National championship last April, being named a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand All-American, being a two-time FIBA gold medalist, being the Gatorade National Player and winning the Nike EYBL Peach Jam on all three years of his AAU career. He has the most achievements in his class.

On3 Insider Jamie Shaw has followed Cameron Boozer during all four of his years at Columbus. While he often talks about the top two from the Class of 2025, being AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson, he says that the incoming Duke freshman will be a beast for the Blue Devils.

“One guy we didn’t even get to touch on was (Cam) Boozer,” Shaw said. “You know, he’s another one kind of along the lines of (Darryn) Peterson where he’s going to come in this year and he’s going to put astronomical numbers from day one. I mean, you can pencil him in for 18 (points), 7.5 (rebounds), and 2.5 assists from the jump and possibly just grow from there. He’s going to be on the biggest stage with Duke. You know, so, he’s going to put up numbers.”

Cameron has already surpassed his dad as a high school student. With his enrollment at Duke, the power forward now has to win a national title with the Blue Devils to tie his dad in terms of college career. He then has to become an All-Star more than twice and win the NBA title at least once.
