Stephen Curry recently shocked the NBA world by ending his 12-year partnership with sportswear brand Under Armour. This was his second-longest partnership after 16 years with Golden State, ever since his arrival in the NBA. Steph released his Curry Brand with Under Armour in 2020. Now, as Steph enters the sneaker free agency, he has full proprietary rights to the Curry Brand.
Many have wondered what might have caused this decision from the Warriors legend. According to reports, there were disagreements with the Under Armour CEO. Another reason that emerged was that Under Armour’s failure to sign Caitlin Clark apparently became a catalyst in damaging Steph’s relationship with UA. Steph has now revealed that Clark wasn’t the only WNBA player Curry Brand failed to sign.
Steph wore Sabrina Ionescu’s Nike shoes during a recent game and commented on his relationship with Ionescu.
“We have a long history, she [Sabrina Ionescu] from the bay. Just obviously following her career. And there was a time when she was coming out of school and I was tryna get her to join the Curry Brand. It’s hard to get an Oregon Duck to leave Nike. But it was cool, kinda cool coincidence. I didn’t know she was going to be here yesterday and I just had a pair of her shoes. It was special,” Steph said.

Recent reports suggest that despite Steph’s push, Under Armour did not invest the required amount for the Caitlin Clark deal. Apparently, it became something of a bother for Steph to move forward with the brand.
This story from the past about Sabrina also suggests possible differences between Curry and Under Armour.
