Caitlin Clark’s $28 Million Deal With Nike Might’ve Led to Stephen Curry’s “Divorce” With Under Armour, Analyst Shares Report

The NBA world recently suffered a shock when a long-standing deal between Stephen Curry and Under Armour came to an end. Curry and the sportswear company were in partnership for 12 years. He released his brand in collaboration with Under Armour in 2020. In the last five years, the brand has seen a meteoric rise.

Now, Steph is a sneaker-free agent. Multiple brands would be desperate to get his signature for a new deal. He has secured all the rights to the Curry brand and can transfer all his proprietary rights to the next shoe company he signs with. Fans have been wondering what led to this fallout.

Many have speculated that Curry had disagreements with the owner of the brand. However, analyst Robin Lundberg recently shared a reason related to Caitlin Clark, which may have led to Steph parting ways with UA.

“There is another connection now apparently between Curry and Clark. And that’s when it comes to this Under Armour divorce. Now, there’s been a lot of reported about why Steph left Under Armour, and he apparently had friction with the CEO and the direction for a while and all that for various reasons. But one of the latest ones was underinvestment, you know, as far as how it’s been reported that there there wasn’t investment enough put in the brand and that specifically relating to Caitlin Clark,” said Robin.

Lundberg shared a report stating that Steph was allegedly unhappy with the lack of investment in offering a deal to Clark. Nike secured Clark’s signature for an eight-year, $28 million deal. It is now believed that the failure to sign Clark was also a catalyst in Curry’s fall out with Under Armour.

Analyst Talks About Curry Brand Almost Signing Caitlin Clark

In the same video, analyst Robin Lundberg shared his two cents on the entire matter. He said:

“I don’t know if Caitlin Clark should be sitting under anybody’s brand to be quite honest, but that’s not the point. And if you go back to some of the reported figures that were thrown out there, it really is wild in retrospect to see some of those things, given what Caitlin Clark should be getting.”

“If these figures are true, this is apparently from the Wall Street Journal, but you see these deals there and even that Nike deal is an absolute steal. And if that was as high as Under Armour was really really going to go, it just shows you I think a lot of people thought it was going to be a flash in the pan and that, you know, it wouldn’t carry over to the WNBA level,” he added.
