Where Will Boogie Fland Land Next? Former Arkansas Guard Still Searching for New Home

Arkansas guard Boogie Fland took his name out of the NBA Draft and is focusing on his next team, as he is in the transfer portal. He is removing himself from the NBA Draft and from the NBA Draft Combine. Fland and his agent realized it may be more beneficial if he returns to college and continues to develop his game.

The true freshman guard averaged 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists. He shot 37.9% from the field and 34% from three. Fland will have at most three years left of college basketball, barring any injury resulting in a redshirt.

What Would His Role Be With The Gators?

The 6’2″, 210-pound guard is looking for his next home. Two schools that are heavily pursuing him are the University of North Carolina and the defending champion Florida Gators. The Florida Gators are the favorites to land Fland.

If Fland transfers to the University of Florida, he would presumably start at shooting guard on a new look Gators team. The trio of Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin, and Will Richard are out of eligibility with Clayton Jr. going to the NBA and Martin looking to go there as well. Also, Denzel Aberdeen transferred to the University of Kentucky.

Xavian Lee, a transfer guard from Princeton University, would start next to Fland. Fland and Lee would instantly be one of the better duos not just in the SEC but also in college basketball.

With Clayton, Martin, Richard, and Aberdeen gone, there is a lot of room for improvement for Fland to break out and become even better than he was in his freshman year. Now that his freshman year is over, Fland has collegiate basketball experience under his belt.

With some offseason training and some added muscle, Fland can easily improve to averaging 15+ points per game especially if he can be a better shooter, especially from the charity stripe.

What Would His Role Be With The Tar Heels?

Similarly to Florida, UNC’s roster is also a lot different from the season prior. RJ Davis is out of eligibility and Elliot Cadeau transferred to the University of Michigan. Another guard, freshman standout Ian Jackson transferred to St. John’s University.

However, UNC has done the best they could to retool their roster after a disappointing season. In the transfer portal, they brought in five players, highlighted by 7’0 tall Henri Veesaar from the University of Arizona and forward Jarin Stevenson from the University of Alabama.

One of the biggest needs for the Tar Heels is size as they were very small last season with guards in Davis, Cadeau, and Seth Trimble. Trimble is still on the team and currently slated to be the starting point guard next season.

However, the added size from the portal helps UNC tremendously especially considering their in-state rival Duke is once again another big team in terms of height and size.

If Fland transfers to North Carolina, he will start as the shooting guard alongside Trimble. With a new-look Tar Heels team and Trimble not being an elite scorer, there are tons of opportunities for Fland to breakout to a point where he could potentially average 17+ points a game.

Boogie Fland is highly recruited in the portal and was also highly recruited back in high school. He was originally committed to the University of Kentucky. However, once John Calipari went to Arkansas, Fland decommitted from the Wildcats and joined the Razorbacks.

Despite being from Bronx, New York, whether he picks the Florida Gators or North Carolina Tar Heels, he gets to return back to the east coast. However, just because those two programs are the most publicly interested, that does not mean more programs could try to land Fland.
