    The 2015 Kentucky Wildcat Argument

Let’s consider some exciting records about the 2014/15 season of the Kentucky Wildcats. They won all 31 of their regular-season games – 31–0. In addition, they began the NCAA season with a record of 38 wins and no losses. Impressively, they made it into the Final Four, and everyone predicted an easy win!

Surprisingly, they lost! Yes, they lost in the Final Four to the Wisconsin Badgers, putting their record at 38-1 (38 wins and one loss). Ultimately, they did not win the championship after posting such an excellent record. Would you judge the team as bad because of a single loss in 39 games? I am sure you wouldn’t.

A Journey into the Past: Phi Slama Jama

While one can be impressed with Kentucky, the University of Houston basketball team, Phi Slama Jama, made much history in the 1980s. The Cougars posted an impressive record of 31-2 and enjoyed 26 games winning streak. Their season was undoubtedly remarkable.

They beat No.2 Louisville to set up their match against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Sadly, they lost the national championship on a dunk in the final second. Grabbing a desperation shot by Dereck Whittenburg, Lorenzo Charles dunked perfectly, leading to a 54–52 victory over Phi Slama Jama. A single dunk ruined a great season. The best team lost, wouldn’t you agree?

    The Story Goes On

Several other teams have experienced something similar. For instance, in 1990, UNLV won the championship, beating Duke 103–73. The following year, they were on an impressive 34-0 winning record before playing Duke.

Sadly, they lost the final four to Duke by 79–77, which was a sweet revenge for Duke. The Michigan 1993 team posted a record of 31–5 during the seasons but lost the title game to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Many teams have experienced something similar to these.

Which of these teams would you call the best? The debate will continue, and we hope to have others join this exciting list.
