ESPN have picked their celebrity guest picker for Saturday’s “College GameDay”. Atlanta Hawks star is set to feature for the second time in his career for this honor. Former OU basketball guard Trae Young will be present as his team faces Michigan on Saturday.
The match-up with Michigan marks OU’s 42nd appearance on the show. Previously, Young featured as a picker after he was in the position for OU vs. Oklahoma State in 2020. OU is set to kick off vs Michigan at 6:30 PM on Saturday at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The game will be live on ABC.
OU will be excited to invite one of their own back home. However, the fans did not seem that thrilled about the decision.

“Booo. Literally picked the worst option out of everyone”, one fan shared his opinion.
“Alex Caruso robbed”, one fan commented.
“Damn. Was really hoping for Shai”, another fan shared his wish.
“Love Trae. But what? If you’re going nba OKC champs would love to do it ; Shai. Jdub. Caruso. If you want past OU players keep it football. CeeDee. Barry. Bradford. Bob. They kinda missed with this one.”, one fan explained his discontent.
“Cool but why not Barry Switzer he was the last head coach when we played versus Michigan?”, a user shared.
“Boring. Should of been a NBA Champion that’s 30 miles away.” another commented.
“Really, football blue bloods don’t care what that kid has to say.” one fan got blunt.
Michigan and Oklahoma meet for the first time since 1976. Week 2 of the college football season has a blockbuster matchup in store for the fans. It’s another SEC vs Big Ten showdown.
Trae Young must be delighted with the invite. He was also courtside recently for His former EYBL team. Young is currently under a five-year contract with the Hawks, which is worth $215,159,700.
Trae Young’s lack of a contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks
Trae Young’s current agreement with the Atlanta Hawks spans 5 years. The contract stands for 2022-27. With only 2 years left, Young expected a new proposal from the Hawks already. But there was a lot of noise around his future in Atlanta during the offseason.
Trae also spoke up on transfer issues and how it could affect NBA players. Since the start of the season, there has been no major update about this.
NBA insider Jake Fischer shared in early August, “Sources say Young’s side has actually been resigned for some time to the prospect of seeing out the final guaranteed year on his current contract rather than securing an extension, like his current contract, worth in excess of $200 million. He’d then have to make a decision about his $49 million player option for 2026-27.”
Will Hawks give Young an extension, or will he trade him to another team after his final year? Only time will tell.
