“When They Do A Shi**y Job, They Tell You”: Analyst Makes Feelings Very Clear On Dan Hurley’s UConn Roster Moves Following March Madness Disappointment

2024-25 wasn’t the most successful of years for Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies. While it wasn’t a disastrous campaign either, it fell far short of the expectations that Hurley had set for the team the previous two seasons. The bar was set high by winning two back-to-back national championship titles.

The team only reached the second round of the NCAA tournament, and even though they went to distance with Florida, the eventual national champion, Dan Hurley will be the first to criticize their performance last season. Hurley makes no excuse for the Huskies’ performance.

Analyst Mark Zanetto appreciates the honesty of the Huskies’ leader. Speaking on Monday through the “Big East Energy Network”, Zanetto said:

“Do you think last year that taste sits well with Dan? He’s went on national podcasts… and talked about how he did a poor job coaching. The self-awareness that Dan Hurley and his staff has, is second to none. When they do a sh***y job, they tell you. He’s always honest.” (9:30)

The most poignant fact about the 2024-25 season is that it wasn’t even a bad season by comparison to his full record at Storrs. This was his third-best season in charge of the Huskies, out of a total of seven. The other two better seasons? National titles.

Dan Hurley admits the 2024-25 season wasn’t a job well done for the UConn Huskies

Speaking last week with CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Dan Hurley opened up about the 2024-25 season and admitted that it was far from his best job with the Huskies. When asked if he finds himself thinking about it often, and if he thinks that despite the early elimination, the season was overall a positive one, or if he leans towards feeling disappointed by what they achieved, Hurley said:

“Brutal every time, well, not every time, but I’ll pick brutal like 80% of the time. Maybe 85%… It was frustrating.”

“It wasn’t my finest year coaching.”

He also admitted that he has found himself thinking about what happened often, and that he has tried to use the offseason to extract lessons from last year’s experience. Hurley also said that he couldn’t help but feel that they lost a chance several times during the season. Not only with their loss to Florida, but with a series of back-to-back losses in the regular season that made it impossible to win the Big East.
