There is no end in sight to the rivalry between 2K and EA Sports. 2K didn’t waste any time responding to EA Sports’ announcement that it would be releasing a college basketball game in the future, hinting on social media about its own plan to create an NCAA hoops game.
NBA 2K’s X (formerly Twitter) account replied to a message from one user who wrote that “2K should be making the college basketball game.” NBA 2K responded by insinuating that the company will create an NCAA basketball game for its fans soon.

2K Sports also released a statement through The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, confirming that it will compete with EA Sports in the gaming market for NCAA basketball.
I just got this statement on behalf of 2K Sports:
“2K is the undisputed home of basketball gaming. We have a strong history with college hoops and are exploring exciting new ways to bring athletes and schools to life. Class is in session.” https://t.co/l0did9j7Sv

2K’s college hoops gaming reveal came just hours after EA Sports announced on its X account that it would be bringing back NCAA Basketball. The company sent fans of the beloved game into a frenzy when it posted a tweet on Monday of a basketball with the EA Sports logo on it. The post included a caption which stated: “Bring the Madness. Let’s run it back.”

Comparing EA Sports and 2K’s Last Releases in the College Basketball Gaming Market
It has been a long time since EA Sports and 2K released college basketball games. 2K last released an NCAA basketball title in Nov. 2007 with the College Hoops 2K8 game. The game featured Ohio State star Greg Oden on its cover as well as official branding from the NCAA.
2K decided to stop releasing NCAA basketball games after that, focusing its attention and resources instead on its popular NBA franchise. EA Sports failed to take advantage of 2K’s exit in that particular gaming market, opting to stop its college hoops line following the release of NCAA Basketball 2010.
