Rams Use Top-30 Visit on QB for First Time Under Sean McVay & Les Snead Era — Is Jalen Milroe the Guy?

Long ago, the Los Angeles Rams were a franchise recognized by bold moves and innovative thinking under the leadership of coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead. The coach was hired in 2017, making him one of the youngest head coaches in NFL history, and since then, the duo has transformed the Rams into a ceaseless contender, showcased by a Super Bowl victory in 2022.

Known for their aggressive trades, creative draft strategies, and ability to maximize talent, McVay and Snead have built a reputation for thinking beyond the border. However, one thing they had never done in their nine years of leadership together was use a Top-30 visit on a QB until now.

Sean McVay and Les Snead Use Top-30 Visit on Jalen Milroe

Yesterday, the LAFB Network reported that the Rams hosted Alabama QB Jalen Milroe for a Top-30 visit, a significant declination from their usual draft protocol. This move has raised speculation among fans: Could Milroe be the future of the Rams at the QB position?

The Top-30 visit is an important part of the NFL Draft evaluation process, giving room for teams to bring in up to 30 prospects for in-depth interviews, medical evaluations, and on-field assessments.

For the Rams, who have not majored on quarterbacks in the draft since trading up to select Jared Goff No. 1 overall in 2016. The duo has often relied on veteran QBs Goff, followed by Matthew Stafford, who led them to the Super Bowl. But with Stafford now 37 years old and his contract set to expire after the 2025 season, the Rams may be considering the future.

Milroe, the dynamic Alabama Crimson Tide QB, has been a concentrated prospect in the 2025 draft class. At 6’2” and 220 pounds, he brings a strong arm and exceptional speed, making him a nightmare for defenses as both a passer and a runner.

During his final season at Alabama, Milroe displayed his playmaking ability, leading the Crimson Tide to a strong SEC campaign while earning praise for his leadership.

However, Milroe’s game doesn’t come without flaws. NFL scouts have noted that his passing accuracy and decision-making need improvement, posing questions about his readiness to step into a starting role at the professional level.

In one of Chad Reuter’s March 2025 mock drafts, Milroe was projected as a third-round pick, with the Las Vegas Raiders selecting him at No. 68 overall.

Yet, his invitation to the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay has raised speculation that he could be a surprise first-round pick, especially if a team like the Rams projects him as a long-term project worth developing.

Why Milroe Fits the Rams’ Vision

The Rams’ interest in Milroe makes sense when viewed from the perspective of their current roster and long-term goals. Stafford remains a capable starter, but his age and injury history have forced the Rams to consider their succession plan.

While backup Jimmy Garoppolo provides short-term stability, he is not seen as a long-term solution. Drafting a quarterback like Milroe would give the Rams room to groom a young signal-caller behind Stafford, providing him time to develop in McVay’s QB system.
