Nebraska Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule has given his initial thoughts on the recent announcement of one of his key cogs planning to enter next year’s transfer portal. On Monday, Dec. 15, it was announced everywhere on news outlets and publications that Cornhuskers starting quarterback Dylan Raiola plans to enter the 2026 transfer portal, which opens on Jan. 2, as he looks to find greener pastures elsewhere.
With the heartbreaking exit in mind, coach Rhule was then asked by sports reporter Luke Mullin about his initial thoughts on the departure of one of his star players. For Rhule, he is supporting Raiola on the move, despite it not being what he had wanted, and wishes that he could even find success even if he is no longer part of his program. Raiola has spent the first two years of his collegiate football tenure under the tutelage of Rhule.

Rhule on Dylan Raiola’s transfer on the Huskers Radio Network:“If he needs a fresh start I’m going to pray that he finds the right place and that he has so much success. With that being said, there’s a lot of great QBs out there and a lot of guys want to play at Nebraska.”

Rhule, Raiola and the 2025 Cornhuskers now look to close out the year strong as they just wrapped up their regular season campaign and are now turning their heads towards their postseason game, the SRS Las Vegas Distribution Bowl on the last day of the year, Dec. 31, against coach Morgan Scalley’s Utah Utes in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nebraska finished the campaign with an overall record of 7-5 (4-5 Big Ten).

Perhaps what makes Dylan Raiola’s untimely departure from the Nebraska Cornhuskers is the fact that coach Matt Rhule recently talked about him highly in a recent report. Back on Dec. 3, it was posted by Luke Mullin as well on his X/Twitter page that Rhule shared how excited he is to see how Raiola will improve come his junior year and how he acknowledges how much the Buford, Georgia native has progressed.
