’10 Steps Ahead’ – Matt Rhule Details Dylan Raiola’s Growth This Offseason

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are coming off their first bowl appearance since 2016, and that is partially due to the play of starting quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Head coach Matt Rhule is extremely high on Raiola, especially this offseason.

Nebraska Football HC Rhule Sheds Light on Starting QB Raiola’s Offseason Improvements

Raiola has gone back to work this offseason, and Rhule recently spoke about how his quarterback has improved over the last few months.

“Dylan (Raiola) is 10 steps ahead of where he was… I’ve really enjoyed watching him.”

Raiola will hold the keys to the team’s success in 2025, and his offseason improvements have been significant.

Keep in mind that he was just a freshman, and he still completed more than 67 percent of his passes for 2,819 yards and 13 touchdowns.

However, he will have to cut down his interception total of 11 from a season ago.

Decision-making will be the X-factor for the son of a former NFL offensive lineman as he moves into his sophomore season.

    What Is Nebraska’s 2025 Ceiling?

The Cornhuskers, slowly but surely, are on the rise as a program.

Matt Rhule has turned the program around in just two years.

After going 5-7 overall in 2023, the team was able to win seven games, including a victory in the Pinstripe Bowl.

If Raiola can play up to his potential in just his second season of college football, the Cornhuskers could be a team to watch in the Big Ten.

Now, the conference is packed with good teams.

Ohio State is coming off a national title, Penn State is coming off a semifinal appearance in the College Football Playoff, Oregon appeared in the Rose Bowl, and Indiana also made the College Football Playoff.

Plus, the Michigan Wolverines, Wisconsin Badgers and USC Trojans could be wild cards in the conference with the way they are approaching the 2025 season.

If Nebraska wants to contend this season, its goal should be to win at least nine or 10 games.

That could also be the ceiling for the team, which has not won 10 or more games in a season since 2012, when Bo Pelini was head coach.
