‘Massive Upgrade’ — ESPN Insider Tips Cam Ward To Take Over 25-Year-Old QB’s Spot as Tennessee Titans Push for Revamp

On Wednesday, ESPN front office insider and NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum held his 2025 NFL Draft media call. This followed the release of his latest mock draft, in which he ranked quarterback Cam Ward as the Tennessee Titans’ No. 1 overall draft pick.

This would be a massive upgrade for Tennessee, which is what Tannenbaum touches on. It’s not fair to write off Will Levis entirely as a starter, but he hasn’t grown the way Tennessee would have liked him to, and it may be time to look in another direction for their field, in general.

ESPN Insider Tips Cam Ward To Take Over 25-Year-Old QB’s Spot at Tennessee Titans

While Levis is still young and has his whole career ahead of him, to say there’s a sizeable talent difference would be an understatement. When a player like Ward comes along, and the Titans have a chance to take him, it seems like a no-brainer for a team that desperately needs to find their way at quarterback.

The Titans have also been reinforcing their offensive line, signing the likes of Dan Moore Jr. and Kevin Zeitler, and it looks like they will move JC Latham over to right tackle. While you sometimes can’t compare college to the NFL, Ward is a player who should translate well to the big leagues.

In the media call, Tannenbaum spoke on Ward to the Titans and how Ward could be a “massive upgrade” to the Tennessee football team over their young quarterback in Levis.

“I’m not saying Will Levis’ career is over, but barring any unforeseen circumstances, I think Cam Ward will be a massive upgrade and a much better fit for Brian Callahan’s offense than Will Levis.”

“While I’m not ready to completely write off Will Levis as an NFL starter, I think there’s a clear separation in talent between him and Ward,” Tannenbaum said. “This is an easy decision for Tennessee.”

“He displays outstanding pocket movement,” Tannenbaum said. “I like how his eye level stays down the field as he moves around and avoids pressure. Last season, Ward led the country in TD passes (39) and passing plays of 20 or more yards (74).”

As Tannenbaum said, Tennessee will ultimately have a decision to make, and it should be easy. Levis still has the potential to become a franchise quarterback wherever he winds up, but when a player like Ward comes around, Tennessee has a straightforward decision to make here.
