The Marshall Thundering Herd continue to stay hot on the transfer portal trail. With their latest pick-up via the portal, the Herd have continue to radically transform their offense and have now signed their second quarterback of this portal circuit.
Braylon Braxton enters the fray in Huntington through the portal among a total of 11 new athletes, all of whom are on the offensive side of the ball.
Marshall Adds Braylon Braxton Through the Transfer Portal
Through the portal, the Herd have now added two quarterbacks this offseason. Braxton enters the picture from Tulsa while they had previously added Mitch Griffis from Wake Forest.
The former Tulsa quarterback heads to Marshall after a bewildering 2023 season with the Golden Hurricane. But his talent is unquestioned.

Though he finished his tenure at Tulsa with a subpar season, injuries clearly played a part of his 2023 play. Back in 2022, Braxton flashed his abilities on the grandest stage, even unseating former starting QB Davis Brin.
During that 2022 season, Braxton threw for 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns in just three starts. He also ran for five more touchdowns, including three over his three starts.
A healthy Braxton gives the Herd a viable option with his arm talent and dual-threat abilities. The other additions in the portal, however, should play a massive role in the success of the Herd in 2024.
It was clear that their 2023 season was a success at times, but had their issues on the offensive side of the ball, mainly on the offensive line.
As such, the Herd have received pledges from 11 total transfer-portal athletes this offseason, all of them on offense:
- Braylon Braxton, QB, Tulsa
- Mitch Griffis, QB, Wake Forest
- Jordan Houston, RB, NC State
- Christian Fitzpatrick, WR, Michigan State
- Elijah Metcalf, WR, Middle Tennessee
- Tychaun Chapman, WR, North Carolina
- Justin Holmes, TE, Kent State
- Aidan Steinfeldt, TE, Indiana
- Barrett Maddox, OL, Vanderbilt
- Jeremy Jones, OT, Tulsa
- Elijah Ellis, OT, Baylor
How quickly this new unit meshes together may go a long way at the Herd’s success in the Sun Belt in 2024. With their additions, however, it’s clear that this coaching staff can adequately asses their own roster and understands how to make amendments on the fly.
Braxton and his new cast of offensive teammates in Huntington could very well make some serious noise next fall.
