Marquise Brown’s Journey From College Football to the NFL

Brown’s journey is one of perseverance. Brown found himself without a team in the Fall of 2015. So, he worked out on his own, increasing his speed, quickness, and agility all on his own, until someone wanted him. Finally, he found a college that wanted him in California.

Brown played one season for the College of the Canyons in 2016 before finding his way to the Oklahoma Sooners. He put together two outstanding seasons for Oklahoma. In 2017, Brown finished with 57 receptions for 1,095 yards. He also picked up seven touchdowns.

The transition to Oklahoma wasn’t easy by any means. Some coaches didn’t trust him to run the correct routes, and sadly for Brown, neither did the star quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Brown got his chance and showed the Oklahoma Sooners and the entire world why he’s as good as he says he is.

His most impressive season came in 2018, when he finished with 75 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns. Overall, Brown finished his college career with a whopping 132 receptions for 2,413 yards and 17 touchdowns in only 25 games.

After making the first-team All-American, and first-team All-Big 12 teams, Brown was selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He was the first receiver selected, separating himself from a decent receiver class.

Brown found his way to Kansas City in March 2024. Unfortunately, due to an injury in the preseason, he was placed on injured reserve. He was able to find his way back for Week 16 and Week 17, where he hauled in nine catches for 91 yards.

In the Kansas City postseason, Brown continued his playmaking ways, playing in all three games. He caught five passes from Patrick Mahomes for 50 yards, including two receptions for 15 yards in the Super Bowl.

Brown’s biggest strength has always been his speed. He ran a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash. Kyler Murray, one of the fastest players in college football history, had this to say about Brown.

“I’d give him a good run in the 40. Might even take him,” Murray says, laughing. “After that, forget it. He’s running away from everyone.”
