Notre Dame has been having a tough week as they first got snubbed out of the 2025 college football Playoffs and now their head coach, Marcus Freeman, has been making the headlines as a potential candidate for the New York Giants head coaching job.
College football insider Dianna Russini revealed that not only the Giants, but he expects Freeman to be pursued by other NFL teams as well.
Russini shared that Freeman’s people skills, leadership and the ability to thrive in among the most high-profile jobs in the country have led to the spiked interest of NFL general owners and managers.
“Burn it to the ground Freeman. Left out of playoffs, opted out of bowl because they are crybabies, and the coach leaving would just be the icing on the cake.” one fan reacted.
“Whoever they hire has an easy job. The offense ranks 12th in EPA/play with countless injuries, likely will be a top 8 unit next year. Statistically the defense is weak vs the run but talent wise that DL is no joke. With Bowen gone the defense could also be top 10 unit next year.” another fan wrote.
Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman is among the names on the candidates list for the Giants’ head coaching vacancy, I’m told.
I expect Freeman to garner interest from other NFL organizations as well.https://t.co/pNkezaxflw pic.twitter.com/Vcx4fNZXqb

“So let me get this straight, first they complain about the CFP committee and now there’s a possibility he’s leaving??.” another fan joked.
“I’d be wanting to leave crap hole south bend too if I was him and get as far away from Notre Lame as possible.” another fan took a shot at the Fighting Irish.
“No thanks. I like the guy but last thing NYG need is ANOTHER first time learn on the job HC ….. been down that road with the last 4 HCs & it hasn’t worked.” another fan said.
“This man is meant for college. His best attributes – recruiting, motivating, talent assessment, and development fit success for the college game, better than the NFL, especially if he has little control over personnel in NFL.” another fan highlighted Freeman’s qualities.

Paul Finebaum Rips Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Over CFP Snub Reaction
While most analysts and fans agree that Notre Dame should’ve been in the Playoffs as they went 10-2 in the 2025 season with a 1-game winning streak, Paul Finebaum believes the committee got it right for keeping them out of the final 12 teams.
Finebaum attributed his analysis to everything the Fighting Irish did since the moment it was announced, which he believes is beneath a great institution that should stand for principles.
The ESPN analyst criticised their decision to take their names out of the Bowl game considerations.
Finebaum said on ESPN’s “Get Up” (h/t On3): “They said, ‘You know, we’re going home. We’re taking our ball like a five-year-old on the playground by not going to a bowl game. Why did they get it right? Because Notre Dame had very little to show on its resume. They’re not in a conference. That’s their own fault. They think they’re too good to be in a conference.”
Notre Dame faced their two back-to-back losses in the first two weeks of the season.
