Marcus Freeman Coaching Rumors: Analyst Claims Notre Dame HC Set To Make $10.1Bn Upgrade After College Football Playoff Snub

Is Marcus Freeman leaving Notre Dame for an NFL team? As of now, there’s no clear answer on his future in college football. However, there are some strong rumors, and they’re getting louder by the day.

Freeman has been on a dream run with Notre Dame since he took over head coaching responsibilities in 2022. He maintains a 43-12 record, and last year Notre Dame made it to the national championship game.

The continued success in college football is often followed by a lucrative deal from the NFL. This time, it’s being reported that the New York Giants, a franchise worth $10.1 billion, is showing interest in the Fighting Irish head coach.

As per Tyrone Johnson of The Craig Carton Show, Freeman might’ve coached his last game with Notre Dame. Johnson stated that he’s been hearing a lot of rumors, even from credible sources, that the Giants are getting ready to bring him in.

“We’ve seen these coaches are getting younger and younger, a lot of these executives are getting younger and younger,” Johnson said. “Marcus Freeman could very well be the Giants’ head coach within a week or two.”

After being snubbed from the College Football Playoff by the selection committee, despite having a strong season record, Freeman’s Notre Dame decided not play a Bowl game. Johnson said they’d regret that decision once Freeman leaves.

In addition to being one of the most successful coaches in college football in recent years, Johnson believes that Freeman’s brilliance deserves a bigger stage. Nothing could be bigger than the NFL. If Freeman joins the Giants, he’ll have a tough task ahead with a franchise that hasn’t won 10 games a season since 2017.

Marcus Freeman On the Giants Rumor

While speaking with the New York Post Sports, Freeman was asked about the rumors and what he thinks about them. Freeman said that he feels grateful to even be included in these conversations with major teams.

He said that he has respect for all the NFL teams and that the Giants have a “tremendous” history. While many would go into considering the major offer, Freeman uses it as a reminder to be grateful for the job he already has.

“It reminds me of the honor I have to be in the position I’m in. You wouldn’t have said that statement if I didn’t have this job and we weren’t having success. It’s a reminder for me that the people in our program, the work they put in results in an output that’s successful,” Freeman said.

There’s no doubt that Freeman has earned the reputation that’s now linking him with a major NFL team. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Giants rumor shapes up into anything in the next few weeks or not.
