Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen has been one of the breakout stars of the 2025 college football season. The signal-caller has established himself as the heart of the Broncos’ offense, leading the team with poise and confidence through a strong campaign.
But in a crushing turn of events, Madsen suffered what appeared to be a serious injury during Boise State’s clash with the Fresno State Bulldogs, leaving fans and teammates deeply concerned.
The Broncos entered the matchup against Fresno State riding an impressive run, having won six of their eight games so far this season. Madsen’s steady play has been central to their success, with the quarterback throwing for nearly 2,000 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
However, their game against Fresno quickly turned tense as the Bulldogs took control early and the Broncos struggled to find rhythm. By the end of the first quarter, Boise State trailed by seven points and continued to play from behind.
At halftime, they were still down by three as the Bulldogs’ defense applied consistent pressure on Madsen throughout the first half. Then came the moment that silenced the stadium.
Madsen was sacked hard and immediately grabbed his leg in visible pain. Trainers rushed onto the field as he struggled to move, clutching the leg that appeared to have taken the brunt of the hit. Madsen was carted off the field with a towel draped over his head, unable to walk on his own.

Boise State backup quarterback Max Cutforth, a Skyview graduate, came in to replace him. The injury has cast a shadow over what had been shaping up as a promising season for Boise State. If his leg injury proves to be serious, the Broncos’ offensive identity could take a major hit in the coming weeks.

Maddux Madsen Got Injured Against the Falcons
This isn’t the first time Madsen has battled through pain this season. Earlier in the season, during Boise State’s game against the Air Force Falcons, he sustained a lower-left leg injury on just the second play of the contest.
Though he briefly left the field, he returned with a brace on his leg and played through visible discomfort. Despite the setback, Madsen managed to complete 13 of 22 passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in that game.
That injury seemed to linger for a few weeks, though Madsen continued to play at a high level. Now, with another leg issue surfacing, this time appearing far more serious, there’s growing concern about his availability for the remainder of the season.
