Four-star wide receiver Kenny Darby out of Bossier City, Louisiana is hinting at a potential flip of his commitment.

LSU Commit Kenny Darby Hints at Flipping to a Rival School
On Nov. 12, 2024, Darby committed to LSU and was going to play for head coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers. The 6’0, 175-pound wide receiver was the 31st ranked wide receiver, 208th national player, and ninth-ranked player in Louisiana.
He chose LSU over Alabama, Tennessee, Houston, Kentucky, and Mississippi State. However, his commitment may not be finalized after all. This weekend, Darby took an official visit to Tuscaloosa and is meeting with the Alabama Crimson Tide, who was one of his top interests before committing to LSU back in November.
LSU WR commit Kenny Darby will have a ‘final decision’ on July 4, can confirm.
Currently on Alabama OV — Baton Rouge in late June.

However, he did not officially decommit to LSU yet, and will take an official visit back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and with the Tigers on June 21. However, based on this visit and Darby’s comments, he may have hinted that the rumors of him backing out of LSU and committing to Alabama are serious.
“I love the coaching staffs a lot,” Darby said. It’s going to be hard.”
Darby announced he will be making his official decision on America’s birthday, July 4th. Until then, all LSU and Alabama fans can hope and persuade him on social media, in addition to a successful visit.
New Era of College Football Recruiting
In the NIL and rise of the transfer portal, for better or for worse, this is a new era in college football. Hundreds upon hundreds are transferring to different schools, and sometimes more than once. Also, before they even get to college, flip their commitment once or even more than once before they even graduate high school.
A perfect example is quarterback Jaden Rashada. Rashada was committed to the University of Florida and then after disagreements in a $13 million dollar plus NIL deal, he flipped his commitment to Arizona State. He spent one season their and then transferred to Georgia. After not playing at Georgia, he then transferred to Sacramento State.
In a span of three years, he has been tied to four different schools, which is just crazy to think about.
The definition of commitment is “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.” The word commitment in college football does not mean what it once used to. College football fans and programs should not get excited about landing a recruit until signing day, when the athlete officially puts pen to paper.
Why He Should Chose Alabama?
Almost every college football recruit’s dream should be getting an offer from or having the opportunity to commit and play at Alabama. They are one of the most historic college football programs of all time. They have 18 national championships, which is more than any other program in the country.
If he chooses to play for the Crimson Tide, Darby would have a chance to join that excellence and compete for a national championship. He would also have an elite counterpart to play alongside with in Ryan Williams.
Williams is one of the best wide receivers in the country, and Darby would have the ability to learn from him every single day on and off the field.

Also, there might be a better chance to earn playing time at Alabama compared to LSU. Currently, LSU already has three wide receiver recruits, while Alabama has zero.
Why He Should Chose LSU?
However, there are also good reasons to keep his commitment to LSU. One of them being, he gets to stay close to home in the state he is from in Louisiana. From his hometown of Bossier City to Baton Rouge is three hours and 37 minutes away. If he chose Alabama, he would almost six hours away from his family.
Choosing to stay at LSU also shows the type of person that he is as someone who is very loyal and committed.
