LSU Reportedly Pleads for Louisiana Governor’s Intervention Amid Uncertain Future for Brian Kelly

The LSU Tigers program is seeking help from a member of its state’s governing body with regard to the exit of their most recent head coach, Brian Kelly. On Sunday, Oct. 26, the Tigers announced that they have fired Kelly in the middle of the 2025 college football season and are relieving him of his duties at the helm of the LSU coaching staff despite still being under contract.

According to a recent post by @RossDellenger on X/Twitter, the LSU higher-ups have continued their discussions about the future of coach Kelly and his contract, but this time they have involved the governor of the state of Louisiana. Jeff Landry is Louisiana’s current governor, and he was reportedly involved in discussions that have not had a definite resolution yet.

The Tigers are coming off a disheartening 24-point defeat, 49-25, at the hands of coach Mike Elko’s Texas A&M Aggies in their home stadium, the Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in Week 8 of the 2025 NFL campaign.

LSU now has a 5-3 overall record (2-3 SEC) on the season thus far. Coach Frank Wilson has since assumed the role of interim head coach for the program for the remainder of the campaign.

Brian Kelly May Receive A $53 Million Buyout On His LSU Tigers Contract

In a further report by college football reporter Ross Dellenger, Brian Kelly could receive a $53 million buyout on his LSU Tigers contract.

With the hefty contract, the LSU Tigers may eliminate any further ties with Kelly if they can sort out the number that can be transferred through installments in the coming years. The program will simultaneously work this out while scouting for its next head coach.

The Tigers’ next matchup is against the Alabama Crimson Tide for Week 9 on Friday, Nov. 7, in away territory, the Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
