LSU Tigers star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is coming off an incredible first season as the starter. He completed 337 of 525 passing attempts for 4052 yards and 29 TDs. One of the players he was passing the ball to was Kyren Lacy. However, after the season, Lacy was set to end his college career and enter the NFL draft. Sadly, Lacy will not be making any catches next season because he died in an apparent suicide in mid-April.
On Saturday, Nussmeier posted a tribute to his former teammate on his Instagram story, telling the world how much he missed him. In the photo, there is a banner for Lacy surrounded by flowers and plenty of LSU apparel.
“Not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind,” Nussmeier wrote. “I love you 2. This for you!”

Kyren Lacy played five seasons of college football before declaring for the 2025 NFL draft after this past season. He played the final three seasons with the LSU Tigers, meaning Nussmeier and Lacy would have had lots of time to become friends. Nussmeier has been on the Tigers for four seasons, serving as a backup QB before taking over the starting role this past season.
In his final season, Lacy took a big jump forward, making 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine TDs.

Lacy’s death occurred shortly before he was supposed to stand trial for his involvement in a crash from December, which killed a 78-year-old man.
