Burrell committed to LSU during the Early Signing Period in December 2023, making him the first scholarship kicker the Tigers have added since Nathan Dibert in 2022.
His high school achievements include being named a First-Team 5A All-State selection in 2022 and earning three consecutive First-Team All-District honors. As a junior, he delivered 51 touchbacks on 51 kickoffs and converted 12 of 14 field goals. In his senior season, he broke his own Bossier Parish record with a 55-yard field goal.
LSU, which ranked among the top teams in the FBS for touchbacks, struggled with kickoff returns last season. Head coach Brian Kelly acknowledged Burrell’s potential impact, stating,
“He’s a weapon, obviously, because you almost don’t even have to worry about kickoff return, which clearly, we struggle with.”
