Lane Kiffin Refused To Talk About Florida and LSU Rumors After Win Vs. Gators
On Saturday, Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels demolished one of the schools trying to get him as their new head coach, the Florida Gators. After that 34-24 win, Kiffin was asked by reporters regarding the rumors tying him to a possible jump to either LSU or Florida. Here is what he had to say:
“To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and how well they played together. We have a lot of things going here, doing really well and I love it here.”
Lane Kiffin Has Not Yet Signed New Contract With Ole Miss
While Kiffin has said he loves living in Oxford, analysts have pointed out that he has not yet signed a contract extension with Ole Miss. His contract was reportedly extended by a year through 2031, and if he stays with Ole Miss, he could earn up to $9 million annually, with $7.2 million guaranteed. However, LSU and Florida may be offering much bigger contracts.
Reports Say Ole Miss Has Already Given Him An Ultimatum
With two other schools trying to poach their football coach, there are now reports that indicate that Ole Miss is also willing to give him whatever he wants. However, they have also reportedly given him an ultimatum.
The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel has reported that Kiffin has to decide on staying at Ole Miss or going to LSU or Florida by Nov. 28, which is during the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State.
Lane Kiffin’s Ex-Wife About To Tour Baton Rouge, Where LSU Is
Unlike many ex-wives, Lane Kiffin is still very close to his, and Layla Kiffin, the mother of his children, is set to tour Baton Rouge on Monday. LSU itself has reportedly sent an airplane to pick her up, though this is already her second trip to a possible landing spot for her ex, as she has previously visited Gainesville, where the University of Florida is.
Insider Speculates Reason Why Lane Kiffin Has Not Yet Signed New Contract With Ole Miss
Meanwhile, analyst Colin Cowherd weighed in on why Lane Kiffin has not yet renewed his contract with Ole Miss, saying that there may be limitations to its offer:
“There is so much parity right now in college football. I like Georgia a lot, but they have Texas’ number, but Alabama has Georgia’s number. Ole Miss, if it were such a great job, Lane Kiffin would have already signed that extension. Him not signing it is probably a sign that he knows that there are limitations at Ole Miss.”
For now, people can only speculate as these three schools continue to woo the coach. However, this could soon lead to the Rebels possibly getting distracted. So far, that has not happened yet.
