As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, prospects are making their final impressions at pro days nationwide. With just over a month until Round 1 on April 24, the quarterback class is under heavy scrutiny.
One name getting a lot of attention is Louisville’s Tyler Shough. NFL analysts are comparing him to a legendary quarterback, hinting at his rising stock. He’s even received a comparison to a Pro Bowl NFL quarterback.

Tyler Shough’s Performance Draws Comparisons to Legends
Tyler Shough, a 6’5″, 219-pound senior, showed his skills at Louisville’s pro day, earning high praise from NFL draft analyst Field Yates, who likened Shough to Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, a Super Bowl champion and one of the game’s all-time greats.

“Louisville’s Tyler Shough has similar traits to Stafford; he can throw from a variety of different angles and hit tight windows,” Yates noted.
This comparison is a testament to Shough’s arm talent and versatility, traits that could raise his position in a relatively thin quarterback class.
Shough’s college career spanned Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville, where he amassed over 7,800 passing yards, 59 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. He completed 63% of his passes and added over 700 rushing yards with 11 scores on the ground.
On tape, his ability to read the field and deliver precise throws stood out. Scouts admire his timing, awareness, and knack for manipulating defenders with his plays. His effortless deep balls and strong pocket presence further fuel comparisons to the legends.
Yet, Shough isn’t flawless. His quick-game timing can lag, disrupting throws. He struggles under pressure, often losing his calm and mechanics when the pocket collapses.
His durability is another concern, as injuries sidelined him for chunks of three consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2023. Despite these flaws, his upside intrigues teams looking for a developmental passer.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, with only two quarterbacks under contract, Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson, hosted Shough for a pre-draft visit on March 9. Even if they secure Aaron Rodgers as many expect, they’ll likely still draft a quarterback, and Shough fits their mold.
His big arm and vertical passing ability align with Pittsburgh’s offensive goals. Analysts see him as a late-round pick who could grow into a backup role or more, though at 26 when the season starts, he’ll need to prove his worth quickly.

Elsewhere, teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and New Orleans Saints are also eyeing quarterbacks in Rounds 1 or 2. Shough’s pro-day buzz and the Stafford comparison suggest he could be a sleeper to watch as draft day nears.
