Louisville QB Tyler Shough Cracks Mel Kiper’s Final Top 50 Big Board

Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough is scampering his way up the draft board, according to one NFL analyst.

Seen by many analysts as anywhere from the third to eighth best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, behind projected first round picks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders and projected day two picks Jaxson Dart and Jalen Milroe, how NFL teams value the six year college veteran is still unclear with the draft just two days away.

Tyler Shough on Mel Kiper’s Final Top 50 NFL Draft Big Board

ESPN’s Mel Kiper is much higher on Shough than most. The long-time scout shot the former Louisville, Texas Tech, and Oregon quarterback up his final big board Wednesday, ranking him as the No. 50 overall player and the No. 4 overall quarterback, behind only Sanders, Ward, and Dart.

Shough shooting up Kiper’s big board is a big surprise. College Football Network’s 2025 NFL Draft: Ultimate Top 300 Big Board has the former Cardinal ranked 104th overall, the third-highest quarterback behind Ward and Sanders.

Shough started 12 games for the Cardinals last year, throwing for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions, leading Louisville to an 8-4 record and a spot in the Sun Bowl against Washington.

Shough transferred to Louisville in Dec. 2023 after a broken fibula cut his time at Texas Tech short. He played three seasons with the Red Raiders, throwing for 2,322 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 15 games (13 starts).

He added eight touchdowns on the ground. Shough led Texas Tech to a 5-0 record in five starts in 2022, including a Texas Bowl victory over Ole Miss. He missed half the season with a shoulder injury.

Shough played two seasons in Oregon, appearing in eight games and starting none.

The NFL Draft kicks off Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Green Bay, Wis.
