The USC Trojans Fall Camp was held earlier this month, with head coach Lincoln Riley putting his players through the ringer. He made some very big moves ahead of the new season, not just in the player roster, but also his staff. Riley hired veteran defensive coach Adrian Klemm, a former rival of his, who will now work under him as a defensive analyst.
He spoke with the USC Athletics YouTube channel regarding him hiring his former rival, stating that he expects Klemm to work on the Trojans’ defense this season and admitted that he is more than familiar with his new defensive analyst.
Yeah, Adrian was available and was a position that we had talked about. We’ve had a position in the past that’s going to work with our defense, but more of an offensive coach background,” Riley said. (2:50)
“We were actively looking for somebody in that role. It’s tough that’s a little bit tough to find sometimes, but it was just one of those things where Adrian was available and obviously had some familiarity with this place and some people on our staff and we got a chance to connect with him and it just made sense. So, yeah, he’ll workprimarily with our defensive staff, but we’re certainly going to use him in a few other uh a few other areas as well,” he continued.
Klemm has had a lot of experience in both the NFL and collegiate level. He was once an NFL offensive lineman, winning three Super Bowl rings under new North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots. He previously also worked as an associate head coach and run game coordinator for Oregon and UCLA, respectively.

What Will Adrian Klemm Bring to Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans?
Even though he was an offensive lineman in the NFL, Adrian Klemm also has some experience in the defensive end. Though as Lincoln Riley has said, they also want him to work on several other aspects of the game, and that aspect is recruiting, with the three-time Super Bowl winner being a proven recruiter for college football.
USC, in particular, has seen an improvement in recruiting this off season, and Klemm is largely seen to boost that momentum when it comes to recruitment. In addition, he also has some experience coaching in the NFL, and this, in particular, is what would attract top players who want to play in the league to choose USC.
