With Ohio State now eliminated from the College Football Playoffs after losing to Miami, Buckeyes backup QB Lincoln Kienholz has announced that he is leaving the program and will enter the transfer portal once it opens on Jan. 2. He has had limited chances to play at Ohio State, especially with Julian Sayin having a Heisman-nominated season as a sophomore.
The South Dakota native will have two seasons of eligibility remaining once he enters the transfer portal, which means that teams that need him might get some extra mileage for the next year. He stated that he decided to enter the transfer portal because it was the “best decision” to benefit his career.
The question now is, where would he go?

5 Potential Landing Spots for Lincoln Kienholz
Arizona State Sun Devils
Sam Leavitt is leaving Arizona State, leaving the Sun Devils without a quarterback. He is currently the No. 1 QB who has declared for the transfer portal so far, which means that the Sun Devils have a gaping hole in that position, and Lincoln Kienholz might just be the answer that they need.
Michigan Wolverines
This move would be the biggest slap in the face for Ohio State, with their No. 2 QB moving to their eternal rival, Michigan. However, this should make sense as there is a possibility that Bryce Underwood would also be entering the transfer portal, and Michigan would need a quarterback as they seek to rebuild from the ashes of the Sherrone Moore era and the Connor Stallions scandal.
Miami Hurricanes
Speaking of controversial moves, the Hurricanes, the team that just upset Ohio State, are expected to lose their QB1, Carson Beck, who is expected to enter the NFL draft this season due to his being a senior already. This also leaves a vacuum at that position, and Lincoln Kienholz might just get the playing time that he needs.
South Dakota Coyotes
The Coyotes went 6-2 in the MVFC and became the conference’s runner-ups. However, QB1 Aidan Bouman is now a redshirt senior and is expected to be out of eligibility for next year, so it would make sense for Kienholz to finally come home and maybe give the Coyotes a conference championship.
Florida Gators
DJ Lagway is leaving Florida after the school fired Billy Napier, and that means that the school also has a vacancy at QB1 right now, so this might be the opportunity that Kienholz needs. With a new head coach, Florida is rebuilding, so the Gators need to reach out to the transfer portal in order to do so.
