Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald is one proud father, as his son, four-star wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald, has announced that he will be heading to Notre Dame. The Class of 2026 wide receiver from Brophy College Preparatory in Arizona chose not to go to his father’s alma mater, Pittsburgh and is instead going to play for the Fighting Irish.
Soon after his son made his big announcement, Larry Fitzgerald took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt message to his son, saying that choosing his school is only the beginning of his football journey.
“@devinfitzgerald111, I’m so proud of the young man you’re becoming. Watching you grow, learn, and find your way has truly been one of the greatest blessings of my life.” He wrote on Instagram.
“Your college decision is just the beginning of what’s ahead. It won’t always be easy. You’ll be pushed and challenged in ways you can’t fully see yet, but that’s where real growth happens. I’m proud of everything you’ve accomplished so far, but I’m even more proud of the man you’re becoming through the process.” he added.
Fitzgerald went on to tell Devin to remain true to how he is and asks him to “lean into tough moments”, as he feels they shape a person. “Your strength, your heart, and your determination will carry you wherever you want to go,” Larry Fitzgerald added. Fitzgerald concludes his message by saying that this was just the beginning of Devin’s journey and promises his support forever, through everything.

Larry Fitzgerald played for 17 seasons, all with the Arizona Cardinals. He had a stellar college career with Pittsburgh, with the school retiring his No. 1 jersey soon after he left. He then went on to a legendary NFL career where he became an 11-time Pro Bowler and a one-time First Team All-Pro.
Larry Fitzgerald’s Son, Devin, Explains Why He Chose Notre Dame
With his dad happy that he chose his own path, Devin Fitzgerald explained why he chose to go to Notre Dame:
“My dad’s legacy has been awesome, I love being a Fitzgerald. So I just want to be known as Devin, right now a lot of people I’m like ‘Larry Fitzgerald’s son’, but I just want to be known on the field as Devin and just make my own name for myself,” he said regarding his father’s legacy.
Like many sons of sports legends, Devin Fitzgerald stands in his father’s shadow, and part of the reason why he chose Notre Dame was to forge his own path and just be Devin, not just “Larry Fitzgerald’s son.”
