Lanorris Sellers is the starting quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks, and he was just named the Male Athlete of the Year at an annual South Carolina Athletics’ Gala on Monday. The 19-year-old was a redshirt freshman, and he played backup to Spencer Rattler. He was named the starter ahead of the 2024 season.
Sellers took full advantage of this opportunity and had an impressive 24/25 season. In December, he was named the SEC’s freshman of the year, placing him among the best young players in college football.

LaNorris Sellers Turning Heads with Explosive Playmaking and Composed Passing Profile.
In the 24/25 season, Sellers completed 64.9 percent of his passes (172/265) for 2,274 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed 674 yards on 166 carries and seven touchdowns. Sellers has earned praise for his dynamic playmaking profile. PFN365 draft analyst Ian Cummings praises Sellers’ calmness in possession.
LaNorris Sellers still has room to keep growing as a passer. But I like that he doesn’t force things too often (2.3% INT rate on 299 attempts in 2024), and his creation ability is tantalizing.

SI’s Director of Recruiting, Brooks Austin ranked Sellers as his number one QB heading into the 2025 college football season.
“The quarterback position requires elite physical traits to win, which Sellers has in abundance. Though perhaps the most important trait is the ability to rapidly grow and develop at the position.” Austin said.
“Sellers can beat opponents in the largest variety of ways. He can beat you with his legs, from the pocket, on the run with his arm… You name it.”
An NFL draft scouting report shows that Sellers has exceptional arm talent with easy velocity. He can drive the ball 55-60 yards downfield with minimal strain and shows tremendous zip, firing into tight windows on intermediate routes. Reports also say that he accelerates quickly to top speed and runs with impressive power, consistently breaking arm tackles with his muscled 240-pound frame.

He creates explosive plays out of structure. His combination of arm strength and athleticism allows him to be dangerous, both extending plays and throwing from multiple platforms. His pocket presence is very advanced for his age.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have plenty of anticipation entering the 2025 college football season, and the biggest reason is because of their rising star quarterback.
