Lane Kiffin’s Son Knox Drops Blunt Statement on Why He Doesn’t Want To Play for Dad

Head coach Lane Kiffin and the No. 4-ranked Ole Miss Rebels are out to a strong start to the season, winning their first five games of the year, including a 24-19 win over No. 11-ranked LSU in Week 4. Kiffin has helped the Rebels become a consistent contender in the SEC since joining the team in 2020. Part of the reason for that has been strong recruiting.

Despite his success as a recruiter, one future top recruit could evade him, his son, Knox Kiffin. Knox is not set to be recruited until 2028, but he has already started to get attention from some top programs. However, in a report from Rivals on Instagram on Tuesday, he spoke about how he does not want to play for his dad. He made it clear that he will not be joining the Rebels when it is time for him to make a recruiting decision.

“I’m definitely not going to play for my dad. I want to do my own stuff,” Knox Kiffin said.

While it is interesting to hear Knox Kiffin’s thoughts on his future, it does not mean a whole lot yet. He is only in his sophomore high school season, and as a result, it is not even clear if he will be a top recruit. He does not even have a star rating yet, according to 247Sports.

Lane Kiffin Has Put Together Some Strong Recruiting Classes for Ole Miss

While Lane Kiffin might not be able to attract his son to his program, he has been able to bring in many top recruits. In 2025, he had the No. 16-ranked recruiting class, according to 247Sports. This was a step up from 2024, when he had the No. 21-ranked recruiting class.

Kiffin’s consistent recruiting has led to a strong program that consistently finishes toward the top of the SEC standings. This season, it appears that the Rebels will be one of the top contenders in the conference. Through Week 6, the Rebels sit at the top of the SEC standings with a 3-0 conference record.

The next few weeks will show if the Rebels have a chance to win the conference. They have a game against Washington State on Saturday, which does not have conference ramifications. However, they then have games against No. 10-ranked Georgia and No. 6-ranked Oklahoma. Those games will be the team’s biggest test of the year.
