Lane Kiffin recently caught fans’ attention over a viral TikTok posted by his daughter, Landry, where she was grilling him for coming home with a shopping basket that you are supposed to leave at the shops after you shop.
The LSU head coach seemed unfazed by his daughter Landry’s surprised reaction and asked her what else was he supposed to do as he didn’t want to pay for the plastic bags himself. He recently opened up on that incident while talking to ESPN (via @cbssportscfb on Instagram).
Lane Kiffin said:
“There’s a better story to it than really what it was. First, Landry wasn’t supposed to post that. So I was playing a little bit to Landry, kind of joking with her. But I did. I was proud of myself that I went to self-checkout, you know, and all by myself. Yeah. Well, they asked me to go get things. And it was funny. I was in the aisles, and I was watching all the guys on FaceTime because it’s Christmas. And they’re all on FaceTime with their wives because they don’t know how to shop.
“You know, so they’re having to learn from their wives because they’re one day to go shopping. And then I got to the end, and then it was like, you got to push the buttons on it, and they’re like, there were no bags. And then so I just put it in that and then walked out,” he added.
Kiffin further confirmed that he did return the basket to the store later on.

Lane Kiffin Opens Up About Watching Ole Miss Play Playoff Game Without Him
Lane Kiffin has been one of the most controversial coaches in the 2025 college football season. While initially the talking point about him was for taking the Ole Miss program to their best season yet with a thrilling 11-1 season, he ultimately drew criticism for ditching the Rebels for LSU for a six-year, $91M deal.
Ole Miss played their round one playoff game against Tulane, which was their first of the season without Kiffin.
During the Texas Bowl on Saturday, Kiffin shared how the Rebels staff came to LSU for a couple of days and how he was on the phone with Charlie Weis Jr., who has moved to coach the Tigers but is currently helping Ole Miss try and win a national championship.
“We were talking about quarterback rankings, just we were going over them tonight. So, sometimes we have our staff meetings, even though they’re back there, when Pete is done with his. Then, we get on and have our own.
“We’re just trying to make it work for both sides so Ole Miss can have the best chance of winning a national championship and we can also be building what we are here,” he added.
LSU faced a close 38-25 loss against the Houston Cougars in the Saturday showdown.
