LSU Tigers’ new head coach Lane Kiffin’s latest move to Louisiana has been the talk of the 2025 college football season, with the former Ole Miss head coach inking a near $100 million dollar contract, leaving the Rebels ahead of their playoff leg this season.
Speaking about Lane Kiffin’s extravagant contract on Robert Griffin III’s “Outta Pocket” podcast, Texas A&M’s star quarterback Marcel Reed shared his reaction to finding out about Kiffin’s move to LSU.
He began by saying how Kiffin’s move to the Tigers didn’t come as a surprise to him and further emphasized that if Reed was offered the same contract as Kiffin, he would have done the same thing as the former Ole Miss head coach.
“I felt like it was bound to happen (Kiffin’s move to LSU). No disrespect towards Lane or anything but like you cant talk about it that long and it not happen. It was bound to happen”, Reed stated on the podcast.
“Shoot, if 91 mil for seven years was in front of my face, I would not pass it”, Reed further elaborated (0:30).
Reed’s blatant honesty about the entire situation caught the attention of the current LSU head coach, with Kiffin reacting to Reed’s comments on X, writing:
“#ComeToTheBoot @RGIII Great offense for a QB!!!”,n Kiffin wrote on X.

Kiffin’s reaction comes against the backdrop of him signing one of the biggest monetary contracts amongst all the current CFB head coaches, inking a $91 million contract spread over seven years.
While it’s hard to make out if Kiffin’s reaction to Reed’s comments is an actual invitation to join him at LSU or just playful banter, Kiffin is actively trying to build his roster at Louisiana ahead of the upcoming season.

Marcel Reed Commits To Staying At Texas A&M Next Season
Although Kiffin extended open arms to Marcel Reed for a potential LSU move, the Texas A&M quarterback has already pledged his loyalty to the Aggies ahead of the new college football season.
In another segment of the same episode of the “Outta Pocket” podcast, Reed, upon being asked by co-host Grete Griffin about his CFB career and future with Texas A&M next season, said he will play for the Aggies for the next season.
“I’m coming back. I’ll be back,” Reed stated on the podcast (27:12).
Reed further explained that despite receiving offers after his freshman year, he felt Texas A&M was the right place for him, and he sees no reason to leave.
