Lane Kiffin Makes His Future Clear After Ole Miss’ Win Over Florida

Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has emerged as the No. 1 candidate for the head coach vacancy at the Florida Gators after Billy Napier was fired few weeks ago. Over the past few weeks, Kiffin has addressed the rumors head-on and after their latest 34-24 win over the Gators in Oxford Saturday night, he couldn’t be more clear regarding his future.

Kiffin has refused to talk about any potential job change and is rather focused on leading the Rebels to the best of his abilities.

“I love what we’re doing here,” Kiffin said. “Today was awesome. To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and what they did today. We’ve got a lot of things going on right now and we’re doing really well.”

Earlier this week as well, Kiffin addressed those rumors, saying it won’t affect the team’s results. He cited some of their recent wins after the rumor first caught spark.

“I haven’t even talked about it to them, and I think I’m pretty close to the players, where they walk by or they say something, you know, like, if it was on their mind, they’d make a joke or something,” Kiffin said. “I don’t think it is because I think that they’re very focused on what to do.

“Again, I said it’s a different age nowadays, like when I addressed it a couple weeks ago. I certainly don’t think it was a distraction since. We won at Oklahoma, South Carolina, and played really well last week. This is kind of the world that we’re in.”

Lane Kiffin Puts Ole Miss In Good Spot To Qualify For CFP

With the win on Saturday, Lane Kiffin’s Ole Rebels have improved to 10-1 (6-1 in SEC), putting them in contention for a potential spot in the College Football Playoff. If they make it there, it will be first time since Kiffin took over the head coach role in 2020. Moreover, it was another 10-win season, third time straight and the first time in program history.

This year, the only loss Ole Miss has suffered came against Georgia Bulldogs. Otherwise, they have been splendid both at home and away.

That said, the Rebels still have a game pending against Mississippi State Bulldogs, which they may not want to lose at any cost since it could directly affect their playoffs future and also a spot in the SEC Championship game.
