Lane Kiffin Hits Back After Dave Portnoy Raises Questions Over LSU Pay

Newly appointed LSU Tigers coach Lane Kiffin has been urged by a savvy American businessman to join a different program. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy shouted out Kiffin on X/Twitter for his recent move from Ole Miss and suggested that he should join the Michigan Wolverines

In his social media post, Portnoy asked Kiffin how much the Tigers paid him to transfer to their program. The 50-year-old left the Ole Miss Rebels out of nowhere, even as they were preparing for the postseason. Portnoy then asked Kiffin to move to the Michigan Wolverines, while urging the program to offer him double what LSU paid.

Kiffin has since responded, calling on Portnoy to join and possibly sponsor the Tigers instead of the Wolverines, as he claims that their pairing would be unbeatable. Given that Kiffin just transferred to LSU, it is presumed that he is in the midst of building the schematics of his program there.

Portnoy’s asking Kiffin to join the Wolverines came soon after former coach Sherrone Moore was fired by the team on the same day due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member of the University of Michigan. Moore had a successful first stint in the 2025 season with the Wolverines, but his role will now be taken over by former Charlotte 49ers tactician Biff Poggi.

Lane Kiffin Left An Ole Miss Rebels Team That Was Competing In The 2025 Postseason

Perhaps Dave Portnoy’s callout to Lane Kiffin comes at the expense of the latter’s controversial exit from the Ole Miss Rebels. Kiffin announced through his own X/Twitter account in late November that he was transferring to a rival program, the LSU Tigers.

What made the move unexpected for many was the fact that the Rebels had an overall record of 11-1 (7-1 SEC) and are gearing up to compete in the first round of the postseason on Dec. 20, unlike the Tigers, who are out of playoff contention.
