Ole Miss is at the cusp of making it to the College Football Playoffs and possibly challenging for the SEC championship, with the Rebels currently having one of the best runs of the season. However, all of this has so far been overshadowed by head coach Lane Kiffin‘s ongoing employment drama, as Ole Miss is competing with LSU and Florida to get the coach’s services for next year.
It was Kiffin who turned things around for Ole Miss, turning the Rebels into one of the best college football programs in the country, currently ranked No. 6 in the country, with the team being ensured a playoff spot whether they challenge for the SEC championship or not. However, LSU and Florida have come knocking and have offered big money to the coach to leave Oxford and head to their own campuses.
Sports journalist and podcaster Bomani Jones sounded off on the Lane Kiffin situation and admitted that he cannot stand Kiffin and is not fond of what is happening around the Ole Miss coach.
“The problem that Lane has is he can’t do this like Urban Meyer after the ’04 season, making a move within the conference. Nobody’s going to let you do a commercial. Ole Miss is not letting you do a commercial for Florida or LSU for the rest of this” (1:25)
” I am just reminded at every turn just how much I hate this person that I don’t know. I can’t stand him. Everything about this I hate. He’s the only one that would just lean into how messy this is at every turn, And it didn’t have to be this messy.”
Ole Miss, LSU and Florida have all reportedly matched one another’s offers at $13 million, with all three schools pulling out all the stops, with Kiffin’s family members all being seen on trips to LSU and Florida’s respective campus grounds.

When Will Lane Kiffin Make His Final Decision?
For now, Florida, LSU and Ole Miss would have to wait for Lane Kiffin’s decision, which should happen around Saturday, after the Egg Bowl game against rival Mississippi State. This came after an ultimatum was reportedly set by Ole Miss’ AD.
Kiffin plans to end the season strong, and a big win on Saturday could raise his stock a lot more. Kiffin says his decision has not affected how his team plays, though for now, it has drawn more attention than the Rebels’ victories over the last few weeks.
