Lane Kiffin Contract: All Clauses Included In Massive $91M Deal As LSU HC Joins Kirby Smart In Highest Paid Coaches List

Lane Kiffin has now officially signed his contract with LSU, just days after announcing that he was leaving Ole Miss to coach at Baton Rouge. New details of his contract with the Tigers have now surfaced, and it shows that he is now the second highest-earning head coach in college football, second only to Georgia’s Kirby Smart. So, how much is he earning?

Before he left Ole Miss for LSU, Kiffin was already the 10th highest-paid college football coach in the country, earning $9 million a year over at the University of Mississippi. He had stayed loyal there for several years, turning things around for the school and taking the Rebels into playoff contenders. However, his new contract at LSU trumps that easily.

Now, he has signed a deal worth $91 million, which runs over the course of seven years. He is slated to earn $13 million a year, and that still does not include any bonuses that he might get, including several incentives based on his performance. This means that he may be getting more than just $13 million a year if he does well, and it could exponentially be more if he leads the Tigers to a national title.

With his new contract, he has now surpassed Ohio State’s Ryan Day, who made $12.5 million this year after winning a national title. But he will not be surpassing Georgia’s Kirby Smart, who made $13.28 million this year, even though Kiffin could potentially make more than him because of incentives. Should Kiffin lead LSU to a national title though, he could potentially be the highest-paid coach in the country.

Lane Kiffin Will Still Earn The Post-Season Bonus Ole Miss Would Have Paid Him If He Stayed

While he has already signed his new contract at LSU, he was still the one who made the Rebels into the team that they are. He led the Rebels to a 11-1 record and the team will be making it to the College Football Playoffs, though it would not be him who will lead them in the post-season. The school barred him from coaching as he would be a lame duck coach and would be leaving for a rival SEC school.

Kiffin did try to coach the Rebels until the end, but the school decided otherwise and named defensive coordinator Pete Golding as the new head coach. With his new contract though, LSU will be paying what would have been his post-season bonus at Ole Miss.

Per his new contract, he would receive several post-season bonuses he “would have been entitled to receive” if he stayed at Ole Miss and coach them during the CFP. This includes the $150,000 bonus if they reached the first round and even the $1 million he is entitled to if the Rebels win the national championship.
