Carson Beck is about to start a new phase of his football career in Miami, looking to repeat the feat achieved by Cam Ward last season. Beck, who initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, decided instead to transfer to the Hurricanes for a final season of college that revitalizes his career after a lackluster season with Georgia.
One of the key things for Beck’s ability to succeed is whether or not he will have the trust of the locker room. At times during the 2024 season, it didn’t seem like he had the full backing of the Georgia locker room, so how he does on that front this year could be crucial.
ESPN’s Dan Wetzel isn’t worried about it; he thinks Beck has what it takes to win over a locker room this season. He seems to think his personal life brings enough pathos for the rest of the Hurricanes to get invested in the signal-caller:
“Let me say this, Ree. A Lamborghini and a Miami girlfriend, those are good questions to have to answer,” said Wetzel on the College GameDay Podcast on Monday (9:10).
The comment clearly referred to Carson Beck’s relationship with former Miami Hurricanes basketball player Hanna Cavinder. The pair broke up in March 2025, with some allegations of Beck having cheated on Cavinder. They had been dating since July 2024, and some people saw her as one of the factors influencing Beck’s decision to move to Miami.
Concerning the Lamborghini, it pertains to a scandal from earlier in the year when Carson Beck and Hanna Cavinder had three luxury cars stolen, including a Lamborghini Urus SUV, which he had acquired in early 2024. He also had a Mercedes-Benz E635 stolen, and Cavinder lost her Range Rover. The latter cars were eventually recovered, but not the Urus.
Rece Davis believes that Georgia’s roster wasn’t pulling for Carson Beck in 2024
During the same discussion, Rece Davis touched upon a more important fact of Carson Beck’s capability of winning over the Miami locker room. The fact is, in 2024, he didn’t seem able to rally the Bulldogs behind him.
“I’m not trying to get on Carson Beck. He’s a really talented guy,” Davis said. “He’s coming off an injury, and maybe it’s just as simple as they had to rally around the guy, but the way the Georgia bench reacted when Gunner Stockton went into the Texas game, certainly not that they were happy to see their quarterback hurt. I’m not suggesting that… But, you can tell when they’re pulling for a guy.” (9:20)
However, Davis did say that Miami has great experience in bringing in a plug-in quarterback and successfully integrating them into their plans. 2024 was a very successful experience for them, with Cam Ward eventually becoming the NFL Draft’s first overall pick and a Heisman finalist.
