Wide receiver may not be the only position that former Colorado Buffaloes WR LaJontay Wester will play in the pros, as the Baltimore Ravens general manager hinted at having him play another position as well.

Ravens GM Praises LaJohntay Wester’s Punt Return Ability, Sees Immediate Impact
When the Ravens selected Wester in the sixth round with the 203rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they had already planned out how they would implement the former Buffaloes WR.
Wester had a tremendous college career, beginning with the FAU Owls for four seasons. His best season came in 2023, when he caught 108 passes for 1,168 yards and eight touchdowns. Across his career at FAU, he compiled 21 touchdown receptions.
He used that strong senior season to jump to Colorado for his fifth-year senior season. With QB Shedeur Sanders throwing him the ball, Wester had another excellent season — this time at the Power 4 level.
He caught 74 passes for 931 yards and 10 touchdowns as one of Sanders’ most reliable targets. He was an absolute jitterbug once he had the ball in space, making defenders miss and running away from would-be tacklers. His slender frame — Wester stands 5’11” and just 167 pounds — allows him to be slippery and tough to take down.
While Baltimore certainly has plans of deploying him out wide at the receiver position, GM Eric DeCosta also mentioned his ability as a returner during a press conference following the draft.

“What stands out about him is his return ability. Think he’s a twitchy, explosive punt returner. We think he has the chance to come in here and be an impact punt returner for us”

Wester is no stranger to returning punts — in fact, he returned multiple punts for touchdowns in his college career.

Sometimes when a rookie is drafted to an NFL organization they don’t have a plan. But it’s apparent that the Ravens have done their homework with Wester and have a plan set in place to make both their team and Wester better with him now in Baltimore.
