Brian Kelly’s firing from LSU sent shockwaves across college football. The longtime head coach was dismissed after the Tigers’ latest loss, ending a tenure that never quite lived up to the program’s high expectations.
The move has drawn strong reactions from across the LSU community, including from Kyren Lacy’s father, Kenny Lacy, who made headlines with his emotional message after the news broke.
Following Kelly’s exit, LSU named Frank Wilson as interim head coach, and that’s where Lacy’s father showed his support. He shared a Facebook post backing Wilson, calling him a genuine man who stood by his family when his son passed away earlier this year.
The post featured a photo of Wilson in front and Kelly standing behind him, along with a caption criticizing the former head coach for never reaching out to the family after Kyren’s death.
“This dude actually came sit down with our family and showed us some real genuine love when my son died along with a couple other coaches. I didn’t even get a call or text from that dude in the back. Must be nice to get paid millions to get your walking papers.. Let’s get it coach Frank,” Kenny Lacy wrote.

Lacy’s words reflected deep gratitude toward Wilson and visible frustration toward Kelly, whose departure reignited old feelings within the LSU community. Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver, tragically passed away in April 2025 at just 24 years old. His death followed a difficult year that included legal issues and personal struggles.

LSU Tigers Fired Brian Kelly
Kelly’s dismissal came just a day after LSU’s lopsided loss to Texas A&M, which dropped the team to 5–3. The Tigers’ administration cited unmet expectations and lack of championship progress as the main reasons behind the decision.
Kelly, who joined LSU in 2021 from Notre Dame, compiled a 34–14 record but failed to deliver a College Football Playoff appearance or SEC title. Reports indicated that tension had been building behind the scenes, with concerns about the program’s consistency, recruiting struggles, and stagnant offensive development.
LSU’s leadership decided to move on midseason, naming Frank Wilson interim coach while beginning a national search for Kelly’s long-term replacement. The move cost the school over $50 million in buyout money, underscoring how far LSU was willing to go to reset its football direction.
