Earlier this month, Kyle Whittingham stepped down from his role as the head coach of the Utah Utes football team. He first joined the Utah staff in 1994 and was their defensive coordinator until 2004. Then he became the head coach and held that position for over two decades.
While Whittingham was busy building the program in the public eye, he led a very reserved private life. Even to this day, not much is known about the former Utah head coach’s family. Here’s everything we do know about the Whittinghams.
He met his wife, Jamie, when they were 14 and studied in the same school. They also lived close to each other in the same neighborhood. Whittingham got married to Jamie in 1983, and they have been together since then.
They have four kids, Alex, Melissa, Kylie, and Tyler. Alex is an assistant defensive line coach with the Kansas City Chiefs. He has been with the team for eight seasons now. He has also served as a defensive quality control coach and a defensive assistant.
Kylie, the youngest of the siblings, was a cheerleader in college. Whittingham has a complete and growing family. They have been the stabilizing factors in his otherwise hectic life as a football head coach.
“I have 10 grandkids and probably more to come and the oldest one is 8 years old. I missed a great deal of my own kids’ lives because of this job, and I don’t want to repeat it with the grandkids. I want to be in their lives and be part of it. I’m not that old, but I’m 64, and I’ll be turning 65 toward the end of this season, so it’s time to start thinking along those lines,” he told The Salt Lake Tribune.
Whittingham is now reportedly going to sign with the Michigan Wolverines, starting a new chapter in his head coaching journey.

Paul Finebaum Thinks Kyle Whittingham is Best for Michigan
Strong rumors have been floating around about Whittingham and Michigan getting close to finalizing a deal. The Wolverines have had a chaotic few months and are in dire need of stability and a great head coach.
With Whittingham stepping down at Utah, it has created an opportunity for Michigan to sign a coach with a great reputation. Paul Finebaum believes that Whittingham is exactly what the program needs right now.
“You talk about culture, what program in America needs somebody who is strong in culture than the University of Michigan. So I think more than anything else, he brings respect back to a program that has lost almost all of it,” Finebaum said.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel, in their recent report, said that the high-level university officials will have a meeting on Friday about Whittingham. After that, the program will ink a deal with the former Utah head coach.
