Earlier in the week, former Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord discussed transferring from Ohio State the year before the Buckeyes won the national championship.
While at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, McCord made clear that he was happy to see his former teammates win college football’s top prize despite not actually being a member of the program.
McCord spent the first three years of his college football career at Ohio State before transferring to Syracuse prior to this past season. With Will Howard the starting quarterback of the Buckeyes last year, McCord moved to Syracuse and had a strong campaign for the Orange.

What Did Kyle McCord Say About Ohio State?
McCord highlighted how he was happy to see his friends win a national championship.
“It was awesome,” McCord said. “I mean, obviously, those are my guys, so seeing them accomplish that goal was sweet, knowing how bad they worked for it. And so, like I said, I had a great year, and they had a great year, and so it was just cool to see everybody win, to be honest,” he stated.
McCord also made clear that the conversation to transfer with head coach Ryan Day was not an easy one. However, he outlined how he would keep the contents of that meeting and conversation private.
“I mean, obviously, it wasn’t an easy conversation. And you know, he’s someone that I respect a ton. So I’m going to keep the details of all that kind of private,” McCord added.
Kyle McCord 2025 NFL Draft Projection
McCord is widely expected to be a mid-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This past year for the Orange, he was very impressive, totaling 4,779 passing yards, 37 total touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
In College Sports Network’s latest 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, McCord was selected in the sixth round, No. 179 overall by the Buffalo Bills.

While the Bills do have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Josh Allen, McCord being drafted by Buffalo could make sense for both parties. For the Bills, having solid depth at the quarterback position would prove valuable in the case Allen got injured.
Meanwhile, for McCord, playing behind Allen could be very valuable and allow him to develop and learn from one of the best players and leaders in the NFL.
