Syracuse QB Kyle McCord will be an underdog in the 2025 NFL Draft. After three years at Ohio State, the 22-year-old transferred to Syracuse in 2024 and managed to rack big numbers for the Oranges. Under his leadership, the program wrapped up the season 10-3 and punched a Holiday Bowl ticket against Washington State.
Even though he is not among the top five QBs in this year’s class, McCord will still find his name go off the draft boards in April. Reacting to his draft stock, Fox insider Joel Klatt made promising remarks about the quarterback.

Kyle McCord Leaves an Impression on Joel Klatt
It has been rough for McCord during his tenure at Ohio State, where he saw limited time as a backup to C.J. Stroud. After Ryan Day opted to go with Will Howard, he found a new home with Fran Brown for his final year at college.
What impressed him most was his Holiday Bowl showdown, where he won the game 52-35 against Washington State and scored five touchdowns. He set a new ACC record for most passing yards (4,779) in a single season and thereby amped up his NFL Draft stock.
This week, Klatt contemplated his potential NFL landing spot. According to him, McCord is a decent option for teams that want to deepen their QB depth chart.
“Kyle had a really solid year for Syracuse. Really solid year after what was an incredibly difficult exit, you would say, from Ohio State, huge production led the country in passing, and had a phenomenal year at Syracuse,” Klatt said on his show.
Klatt continued, “Now, when I watched the film leading up to the Holiday Bowl, which we had him in, and he played great down in San Diego, there are a lot of RPOs, and then there are a lot of quick games, and he did a great job of getting the football out of his hands quickly.
“Now, truth be told, he anticipated much better than he did the previous year at Ohio State. He worked through progressions much better than he did the previous year at Ohio State, and overall, he was just a much better player.
“Like I said, that’s how you lead the country in passing. 368 yards per game. Set an ACC record, by the way, for passing yards in the season at just over 4770 yards something along those lines, he did that in the Bowl game.”

Looking at the current scenario, McCord could be a late-round pick. Expect him to go off the boards as a sixth- or seventh-rounder in the 2025 NFL Draft.
