Joel Klatt Predicts Carson Beck’s Miami vs USF Scoreline As Mario Cristobal Takes On Team That Pushed Billy Napier On The Hot Seat

Joel Klatt has weighed in on Miami’s upcoming matchup against South Florida, offering both respect and a clear prediction. The analyst believes both programs have talent and direction, but in his view, Carson Beck’s Miami edge lies under center.

Beck, now fully settled into his role as the Hurricanes’ starter, is expected to be the difference-maker. Klatt pointed to Miami’s efficiency through two games. The offense has looked sharp with Beck steering the unit, spreading the ball across receivers, and keeping mistakes to a minimum.

For Joel Klatt, this is the kind of steady leadership that often decides games early in the season. He doesn’t think South Florida is going to be an easy opponent to beat. Klatt gave major props to USF, but his pick for the week is going to be Miami.

“I’m a big believer in Miami,” Klatt said. “But that doesn’t mean that this is gonna be easy because South Florida is a really good team. Their defense did an incredible job in the secondary, taking away the big plays for DJ Lagway.” (15:45)

Klatt acknowledged their competitiveness but leaned on Miami’s talent and depth to shine through when the game slows down and possessions grow tighter. The predicted scoreline, 31-14, reflects that it’s not going to be a blowout victory for Miami.

Both teams have had a dominant and a close win so far. Miami’s season opener against Notre Dame ended 27-24, while they registered a dominant 45-3 win over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

Meanwhile, the Bulls’ season opener against Boise State was a one-sided affair. They thrashed the Broncos 34-7. When they faced the Gators, the game ended 18-16 in favor of USF.

Carson Beck Reviewed His First Two Weeks with Miami

From 2020 to 2024, Carson Beck represented the Georgia Bulldogs program. There, he earned the reputation of one of the best quarterbacks in the country. In January 2025, he announced that he had decided to transfer to the University of Miami.

Beck is one of the strongest contenders for the Heisman Trophy this year, and with back-to-back great performances for Miami, he is only making his case stronger. During an interaction with the reporters earlier this week, the 22-year-old reviewed his first two weeks in Miami.

“I thought we have been really good as an offense overall,” Beck said. “And again, we’re playing really good complementary football, too. Um, our defense is playing really well. Special teams has been also putting us in really good positions. So again, when you can, you know, perform in all three facets of the game, it makes my life a lot easier and, you know, enhances success.” (1:30)

Carson Beck stated that his mentality has been the same since he arrived in Miami, he just wants to win. His entire team is on the same page with him, which is why they’ve been so great so far. The Hurricanes will play the Bulls on Sept. 13 at the Hard Rock Stadium.
