College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit mourned his dog Ben on the occasion of his first death anniversary. Ben used to accompany the College GameDay analyst on his travels, broadcasts, and personal life.
On Friday, Herbstreit posted a photo of his late golden retriever watching a sunset near a beach. Along with the photo, Herbstreit remembers Ben, writing:
“It was one year ago today that we had to let Ben go. 🙏🏼 This was one of his last trips with me last year-a Thursday Night game in Miami. We love you and miss you Ben!”

Fans also joined Herbstreit emotionally, shedding their own tears either remembering their own companion or Ben himself.
“We always miss our furry friends,” one fan commented.
“Thank you for bringing Ben, Pete, and the boys into our living rooms and onto our phone screens! They have done only what dogs can do, bring people together and make them smile,” another fan wrote.
“We all miss him Kirk. Thank you for sharing him with us and allowing us to love him. Love to Peter and the rest of the pups,” one fan said.
“Your love for your dogs is how everyone should treat their pets. Love it. Pups are always welcome on the broadcast!” another fan reacted.
“I feel ya Kirk, we can skip the grief by skipping the dog – but what a hollow life that would be….” one fan wrote.
“Heartbreaking. Been there. Dogs are the best of us,” one fan wrote.

What Happened to Kirk Herbstreit’s Dog Ben?
Last year on Nov. 7, Kirk Herbstreit informed his followers that the cancer had spread through Ben’s body and that nothing more could be done. As a result, he had to let him go.
He wrote an emotional post after Ben’s death:
“I’ve had dogs my whole life, but Ben was 1 on 1. He was smart-loving-gentle-patient-inquisitive-and welcoming to all. Always a big smile and a soft tail wag. He and I could communicate. He and I understood each other and had each other’s backs. He was with me more than anyone at home and traveling with me for work. Such an easy going companion.”
“Hard day — but he will live within all of us forever,” the NFL analyst concluded.” God, please bless his majestic soul, and thank you for putting him in my life for the last 10 years — a true blessing. Love you, Ben. 🙏🏼”
Ever since his passing, Kirk Herbstreit has continued to share nostalgic memories with him as a way to remember him.
