Kirby Smart Confirms Dismissal of David Daniel-Sisavanh During SEC Media Days

Confirming a press release sent by the school, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart spoke briefly about the dismissal of reserve safety David Daniel-Sisavanh.

Georgia Bulldogs football has been in the news for some of the wrong reasons this offseason, but Kirby Smart confirmed the first of what could be a few disciplinary actions for a few players when he confirmed the dismissal of reserve safety David Daniel-Sisavanh on the set of SEC Now Tuesday at SEC Media Days.

Kirby Smart Confirms That Safety David Daniel-Sisavanh Has Been Dismissed

While Smart declined to elaborate on the nature or reason for Daniel-Sisavanh’s dismissal, stating it was for violation of team rules, quarterback Carson Beck seemed to confirm that it stems from a reckless driving offense in the offseason.

Daniel-Sisavanh was a reserve safety for the Bulldogs, making 24 tackles in the past two seasons. He was expected to challenge for more playing time this year as a senior.

Daniel-Sisavanh is hardly the only Georgia player to have a driving-related brush with the law this offseason. An estimated five players have been arrested on driving-related offenses since March.

Smart briefly addressed the issue Tuesday at SEC Media Days.

“The incidents that we’ve had off the field are not something that we condone,” Smart said. “It’s very unfortunate, disappointing, I guess, is the best word. I always talk about process and outcomes. I talked about that with wins and losses, that we try not to base things on the outcomes with wins and losses. In this situation, the outcomes are very disappointing.”

Georgia made national headlines when an alcohol-influenced crash took the lives of offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy last January.

Though Smart did not go into detail, he indicated that some suspensions could be coming as well as fines from the school’s official NIL Collective.

“We’ll have suspensions coming out of some of these,” Smart said. “That’s probably an important thing in terms of the discipline, the culture that they get to experience.”

Smart hasn’t indicated when suspensions will come or who will be suspended, but it’s clear the Georgia head coach is focused on improving the overall culture. In some cases, that might mean dismissing a player, even one Smart called “a good kid” on the set of SEC Now.
