Lane Kiffin’s choice of play calling received harsh backlash Saturday after his choice to insert cold backup quarterback Austin Simmons in a key goal-line situation backfired miserably against Oklahoma. The Rebels had to settle for a field goal instead of a potential touchdown.

Meanwhile, fans on social media mercilessly trolled and scrutinized Kiffin’s play and tactics with multiple reactions on X:
“Lane Kiffin all-time dumb move putting Austin Simmons in on the goal line with Chambliss marching them right down the field,” a fan said.
“Stop trying to do the Austin Simmons thing Lane Kiffin he’s not the guy,” a fan added.
“@Lane_Kiffin Stop worrying about Austin Simmons feelings and just go win the fucking game,” another fan said.
“Why tf would Lane Kiffin put Austin Simmons in at that point during the drive,” a fan commented.
“Lane kiffin and Austin simmons are both a** lmfao,” another fan said.
“Hey Lane Kiffin Chambliss is your Qb, leave Austin Simmons on that damn bench,” a fan commented.
With starting quarterback Trinidad Chambliss orchestrating a methodical drive deep into Sooners territory, Kiffin made the unusual choice of introducing Simmons, who hadn’t taken a single snap all game. The result misfired horribly forcing Ole Miss to settle for a 22-yard field goal.

The sequence saw Chambliss complete key passes throughout the drive, including a crucial conversion to Harrison Wallace III on third, having shown composure under pressure.
Austin Simmons off the bench and he proves why he’s sitting on the bench right now.
Ole Miss settles for 3 on the 4 yard line and Oklahoma will be REAL happy with that result.
15-10. Rebs up.

Kiffin chose to try to play in Simmons in hopes of catching Oklahoma off-guard. Simmons looked completely out of sync, not surprisingly since he had been watching the entire game from the bench prior to coming in.
Ole Miss led 22-10 at halftime.
