Is Kewan Lacy Injured? All We Know About Ole Miss RB Getting Sidelined vs Miami

The Ole Miss Rebels have an important issue at hand as they are in the second half of the Fiesta Bowl against Miami tonight. Kewan Lacy, their standout running back, might be out of the game for good.

According to the ESPN broadcast, Lacy is suffering from a right hamstring injury and has been on the sidelines since scoring a 73-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter. The play was Ole Miss’ most explosive one in the first half of the game, which is 17-13 in favor of the Hurricanes at the moment.

Despite the reports from ESPN that the running back might be unavailable for the second half of the game, reports from the stadium say that he warmed up during halftime and looked ready to return for the latter part of the event (via The Rebel Walk). The reports were confirmed by ESPN, and the player was back on the field for the Rebels’ first offensive snap of the second half, wearing a protective brace on his right lower leg.

According to ESPN’s Holly Rowe, the Rebels are going to give it a go to try to keep him in the Fiesta Bowl.

How Many Yards Does Kewan Lacy Have in the Fiesta Bowl vs. Miami?

The Ole Miss Rebels haven’t relied too much on the running game this Fiesta Bowl, having handed the ball to Kewan Lacy only two times. However, he has been extremely effective with the few opportunities given, recording 75 rushing yards with one touchdown. As we mentioned before, he gave the Rebels the most explosive play of the game at a time they looked to be against the ropes, a 73-yard rushing touchdown.

The lack of use of the running game by the Rebels has come through the stats, with the Hurricanes having 25 minutes of possession to Ole Miss’s seven minutes. Miami’s top rusher has been Mark Fletcher, who has similar numbers to Lacy, 71 rushing yards. But it’s only on paper that the numbers look similar. Fletcher has 13 carries throughout the game.

CharMar Brown has a further 28 rushing yards for the ‘Canes and one touchdown.
